MOONSHOT - Twister 28 (Kim Holman)
Possibly the best equipped Twister of them all! Moonshot is a 1969 composite Twister in excellent condi-tion and exceptionally well fitted out for extended cruising. Wonderful under sail, and a first-class sea-boat, the Twister was designed by Kim Holman who regarded it as his best-ever creation. With an abun-dance of teak both internally and externally, Moonshot is a very pretty yacht that invariably turns heads wherever she goes.
Her present owners have lavished love and care on this yacht for the last 13 years and only now have been forced to sell her as her 86-year-old skipper has become increasingly infirm. Even this year (2024), Moonshot has acquired a new set of sails (the old ones have been serviced and are still in their bags as returned from the sailmaker), a new stackpak, new sprayhood and new clear-view Onwa plotter with AIS transponder. The wonderful SeaFeather windvane (which has enabled her elderly owners to voyage cross-Channel and down the west coast of France), has this year been completely rebuilt by the original design-er, Paul Dolton. Moonshot’s extended cruising capability has been further enhanced by the installation of 2X100 Lithium domestic batteries which are supplied by a Rutland 913 wind generator through the latest Marlec HDMi controller. This system enables Moonshot to make voyages of a week or more without re-course to engine charging or shore-power. The fridge is left permanently on, and can produce ice for the occasional gin and tonic when required.
Moonshot’s hull is GRP with teak coachroof and cockpit (rebuilt 2021). For antifouling ashore she has easily fitted legs. Her hull is professionally epoxied below the waterline.
Moonshot’s engine was replaced in 2015 with a new Beta 20 motor, which is serviced annually and gives no trouble. It has 750 hours on the clock. On the rare occasions when Moonshot is totally becalmed the engine pushes her along at nearly 5 knots with only about 1800 revs to keep the noise at a comfortable level. Under power, the batteries are charged by a Sterling B to B charger set to give up to 20 amps output on bulk charge if required.

General Information (AI generated)
The Twister 28 is a small sailing yacht known for its robust design, good sailing performance, and versatili-ty. It was originally designed in the 1960s by the British naval architect C.R. (Kim) Holman. The boat is typ-ically around 28 feet in length (hence the name) and has a long keel, which makes it highly stable and -suited for offshore cruising.
Key characteristics of the Twister 28 include:
Length: Around 28 feet (approximately 8.5 meters)
Hull type: Long keel with a traditional, classic design
Construction: Initially built in wood but later models were made in fiberglass, contributing to its durability and low maintenance.
Handling: Known for its excellent seakeeping abilities and maneuverability, even in challenging conditions.
Sailors appreciate the Twister 28 for its reliability, especially in offshore conditions, and it has a reputation for being capable of handling long-distance cruising. Despite its relatively small size by modern standards, it is regarded as a solid and capable boat for serious sailors.
